Reminder: LAFD Disaster Awareness Course - Monday June 23

“California has more than a 99% chance of having a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake within the next 30 years, according to scientists using a new model to determine the probability of big quakes.
The likelihood of a major quake of magnitude 7.5 or greater in the next 30 years is 46%-and such a quake is most likely to occur in the southern half of the state.” April 2008 www.usgs.gov.
There is no time like the present to get educated and get prepared.
What: LAFD Disaster Awareness Course
When: Monday, June 23, 2008 at 6:30pm
Where: Westchester Senior Citizen Center
8740 Lincoln Blvd in Westchester
On Monday, June 23, 2008 at 6:30pm, the NCWP Public Safety Committee will host the Los Angeles Fire Department's Disaster Awareness Course (DAC). DAC was developed because of the need to educate the citizens of Los Angeles in Disaster Preparedness. The session will be held at the Westchester Senior Citizen Center at 8740 Lincoln Blvd in Westchester.
This 2 hour training course will provide an overview of basic Disaster Preparedness and serve as an introduction to the comprehensive, 17 1/2 hour, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training, which will be offered again in our area in August 2008.
Disaster preparedness and hazard mitigation can minimize the effects of a disaster and facilitate recovery. The benefits of this program are numerous. It can increase our overall level of disaster readiness, provide emergency skills that people may use in day-to-day emergencies, enhance the bond between government and community, increased community spirit, and improve the quality of life for your family and the people of your community.
